Stand Out with a Creative Graphic Résumé

It’s been a while since I’ve updated or shared my résumé, but when I saw the creative résumé from designer Katie Briggs (#5), I was inspired to get to work on my portfolio site. It’s still not done, but I love the idea of putting a creative spin on otherwise boring information, and this is especially important for people in creative fields such as design, marketing, etc.

Each of these designs really reflects the creativity and style of its designer, and there’s not much room for copying, but I hope this will inspire you to put a fresh spin on your résumé or portfolio site as well.

I have to say, as an executive recruiter, I absolutely hate these types of resumes. I have been in this business over 13 years, and unless you are trying to get a very creative type of job, I would not recommend this type of resume. As unfortunate as this sounds, when I get a resume like this, I send it to my colleagues for a good laugh. It is not something I would want to present to one of my clients. And if I actually like the person’s background, I would ask them to re-do the resume in a format I could send to my client.

  For some reason I didn’t see your comment at first, Stacy, but I’m surprised to hear that you get résumés like this for non-creative jobs. They seem absolutely appropriate to me for graphic designers, web developers, etc., and I’d think you’d want to see someone’s creativity at work if that’s an important trait in the position you’re trying to fill. No?
